Ain Shams University (ASU/ ANSU) was established in 1950 and is the third oldest university in Egypt. The university includes 15 faculties and 2 high institutes. It includes more than 200,000 students, 14,000 staff members, 4,000 assistant staff and more than 100 centres and special units. The university has activated resources and enriched the experiences of students. ASU/ ANSU is a leading university in innovation, pedagogy and technology. It has an international record of five stars in teaching and mobility according to QS Ranking. Faculty of Education (FoE) is the oldest Faculty of pedagogy in Egypt (EG). It was first established in 1880 under the name of the high school for teachers. In 1929, the higher institute of Education was established and in 1941 a department for higher studies was established for the purpose of certifying Master Degree candidates in cooperation with Faculty of Arts, Cairo University. In 1950, the institute was integrated with ASU/ ANSU. In 1951, the institute started a special diploma in Education and in 1956 became a faculty of education (FoE), ASU/ ANSU. In 1966, a presidential decree no. 3123 was issued to make the faculty of teachers join ASU/ ANSU. At the end of 1970, the faculty of teachers started to work under the FoE .It is considered the most distinguished institution in the field of teacher preparation in EG and the Arab world. It is also considered the in- service training institution for Ministry of Education MOE. It has been providing many training programs for public, private and international school teachers in EG. Its professors have contributed deeply in developing and improving the curricula for MOE. It has established many educational programs and supported MOE initiatives of Professional Development for over 5 years. It has a large network in schools all over EG and has managed school education programs in underprivileged areas in EG.

 

Role in the project

The FoE understands the importance of the link between the school and the university in improving the quality of teaching in EG since it is the college of teachers responsible for providing the needed support for teachers after graduation. It provides pre-service training through practicum for 174 schools in EG. It has different educational departments which provide different programs for both undergraduate and graduate students locally, nationally and internationally. It has expertise in Mental Health and Special Needs. It has also many centres of education and psychological counselling, which are considered support units for in-service teachers. The FoE established centre of excellence in education, which is accredited from the Professional Academy (PA) for providing the educational preparation of in-service teachers program. It manages to provide alternative paths to teaching through providing many educational programs and diplomas like STEM through partnerships with other universities.

Dr. Rasha Kamal

Dr. Rasha Kamal

Team Leader

Assistant Professor at the department of English, Faculty of Education, ASU. She has gotten her MA from ASU and her PhD from University of Toronto, Canada and ASU. She is a Member in the HERE Council ( Higher Education Reform Expert), participating in forming policies and strategies for reforming Higher Education System in Egypt. Dr. Kamal is the director of the Center of Excellence in Education, Ain Shams University, the director of the International Students Unit, Ministry of Higher Education.and the coordinator of the UNICEF Project “the PD of the Teachers in Public Schools with Inclusion” in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Center of Excellence in Education, ASU. She is the key person in several research projects in Education and is a skillful trainer for pre-service and in-service Teachers. She taught two courses “Introducing New Methods of Teaching English Language” and “Civilization to Canadian Pre-service School Teachers” at University of Prince Edward Island UPEI in Canada. Dr. Kamal worked at the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education (NAQAAE) for 2 years and participated as a researcher in many national projects of Education.

Prof. Zeinab El-Naggar

Prof. Zeinab El-Naggar

Zeinab El-Naggar is Professor Emerita at Ain Shams Faculty of Education. She received an MA in education at Ain Shams in 1977 and a PhD from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), majoring in Education and Applied Linguistics in 1981. She has an extensive experience in pre-service and in-service teacher education. She has worked as an ELT consultant for many projects in Egypt such as the Education Reform project (Integrated English Language Program – IELP-II) , the STEPS II and Egypt STEM Schools. She has worked in developing standards for the pre-university education. She is a member of NAQAAE’s committee for reviewing standards from K-12 and of the Appeal Committee. She has designed and evaluated pre-service teacher education courses and in-service training programs. She has presented papers and conducted workshops nationally and internationally and participated in developing the first standards-based Egyptian English language textbooks for grades 1-3, together with the resource book, SPEER. She is currently an expert at the Arab Language Academy.

Dr. Hany Nady Yousef

Dr. Hany Nady Yousef

Hany Nady Yousef was born on April 3, 1980 in Egypt. He received the Bachelor degree (with honors) in Biology from Ain Shams University, Egypt, in 2002, the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Zoology from Department of Biology, Faculty of Education, Ain Shams University, in 2008 and 2011, respectively. He is currently Associate Professor of animal physiology in the Department of Biology, Faculty of Education, Ain Shams University since 2017. In addition, He is the director of IT unit in his Faculty and a Trainer at the training and developing center of Ain Shams University.
Dr. Yousef co-authored several school books for the Arab Republic of Egypt and some Arab countries (one of them is the current Biology Book for 1-Secondary in Egypt). He has many skills including: 1-Computer skills as ICDL, Oracle Database 10g, TOT in the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, Dream Waver Cs5, Photoshop Cs5, Flash Cs5, Articulate Story line, Flipbook maker, Movie maker 6, Moodle, Smart board, SPSS. 2-Language skills (TOEFL, TOESOL, conversation courses in Berlitz institute & British council). 3-Personal skills (Organized, Punctual, Approachable, Honest, Patient and Eager). He has published 11 scientific articles and 2 book chapters in the field of Animal Physiology. His research interests include Antioxidants, oxidative stress and Hormones.
